Why I Pivoted: From Behind the Camera to Behind the Marketing Strategy
A Life-First Journey Into Supporting Fellow Small Business Owners
For more than a decade and a half, I poured my heart into photography—capturing newborn snuggles, growing families, and the beautiful behind-the-scenes of passionate business owners. I built a business from the ground up through word of mouth, social media hustle, and the kind of deep client relationships that kept people coming back year after year.
But somewhere along the way, things shifted.
When the Seasons of Life Start Speaking Louder Than the social media noise
Motherhood changed me in ways that I didn’t expect. Postpartum wasn’t just about healing physically—it was about reorienting everything I thought I knew about time, energy, and capacity. I no longer had the margin to show up everywhere, every day. My creativity was still alive, but my bandwidth had changed. I needed to find a better way to do business that honored both my clients and my life.
Then came the back-to-back family losses. Deep, life-altering ones. The kind that leave you questioning what really matters—personally and professionally. In those quiet, grief-soaked seasons, the last thing I had space for was showing up on social media with forced consistency. But the need for connection didn’t disappear. My desire to serve, create, and support others only grew stronger.
That’s when I realized something big: I wasn’t done building—I just needed to build differently.
From DIY Marketer to Strategic Mentor
I’ve been marketing in some form since 2009—back when referrals and Facebook albums were enough to fill a calendar. I’ve experimented with nearly every tool, platform, and strategy out there, from vendor events and printed displays to email funnels to paid ads to Pinterest growth.
But the common thread through all those years?
A deep love for understanding both the business owner and their audience. I’ve always been a connector—empathetic by nature, intuitive by experience.
As I dug deeper into sustainable marketing strategies, I found myself obsessed (in the best way) with sharing about tools and systems that make your marketing work for you, even when you step away. I leaned into blogging, email marketing, SEO, batching, scheduling, repurposing, and content strategy. Not just for myself—but with the intent of helping others do the same and gain their time back.
This Pivot Is Personal
I didn’t walk away from photography—I evolved. I still believe in storytelling. I still believe in showing up authentically. I still believe in crafting intentional, visual brands that build trust and spark connection.
Now, I’m simply doing it behind the marketing strategy instead of just behind a lens.
This pivot is deeply rooted in my own lived experiences:
Seasons of burnout, where I couldn’t keep up with the pressure to always be “on”
Postpartum identity shifts that changed how I approached time and business
Family loss that reshaped what I wanted my days and legacy to look like
It’s also built on my desire to help other business owners honor their own seasons—to market with strategy, not pressure… with systems, not stress.
Who I'm excited to Serve
Today, I support fellow small business owners, creatives, and DIY marketers who want:
Simpler, more strategic marketing systems
A way to stay visible without being glued to their phones or the social media platform that they’re drained from
A trusted guide who gets both the big picture strategy and the emotional weight of entrepreneurship
You want to connect with your audience, grow your business, and still have a life outside of it all.
I’m here to help you build that.
What Comes Next
Whether it’s through workshops, digital courses, content planning tools, or 1:1 strategy support—my mission is to make marketing sustainable, repeatable, and human. No chasing trends. No burning out. No one-size-fits-all templates.
Just clear systems, aligned strategy, and a life-first approach to growing your business in a way that lasts.
Final Thoughts
I still light up when I think about the families and brands I’ve photographed over the years. But now, I light up just as much when someone tells me they finally understand how to create consistent content and market their business without losing their mind.
I’m still telling stories.
I’m still helping people to feel seen.
I’ve just changed the scope in how I accomplish that.
And if you’re ready to build a marketing system that fits your life—one that respects your time, serves your people, and lets you take a breath—I’d love to be the guide who helps you get there.
